List of potential speakers Film list Reports on Fall 2006 events With the war in Iraq now entering its fifth year and prospects for a new war in Iran increasingly serious, the need for campus discussion and debate remains urgent. The November elections have brought hope for a change in direction, but that change is still elusive. Meanwhile the carnage continues, bringing immense suffering to the Iraqi people and to American troops. We believe that historians have a vital role to play in promoting a critical, wide-ranging exploration of the issues surrounding the Iraq War. We are calling upon history professors and teachers, as well as students to use the occasion of the Fourth Anniversary of the Iraq War (officially March 20) to schedule educational forums at schools across the country. Some people may prefer to schedule the forum on the actual day, others in the weeks before or after this tragic anniversary. At a moment when the duration of the Iraq War will be the object of national attention, we can make a valuable contribution. While the exact format and themes of the Forum will reflect the needs of each particular school, we have updated our resources from the Fall Teach-Ins to provide assistance for those who wish to use outside speakers and/or films. Our speakers include academics, journalists, and activists. Some prefer to speak exclusively about the Iraq War, others about U.S. policy in the Middle East, and still others about the assault on the U.S. Constitution and civil liberties. To further assist you, we have listed organizations that provide antiwar speakers as well as organizations that offer a defense of the Bush Administration policy. If you have further questions, please email us at teachin@historiansagainstwar.org. Previous teach-ins
